what's wrong with my sound card ?? How should I do ??

yesterday i run alsamixer to configure my sound card and it work well.
but today it doesn't work.

i run the same command but it show some errors as follow:

bash-2.05b#alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device.

what's wrong with my sound card ?? How should I do ??

PS,my sound card is integerated on the mainboard --- AC97 .

You mean *yesterday* your sound card is ok right?

If you did not change anything to the kernel and its modules, or touch your mainboard, then maybe your sound card stopped working...

Try to get a live cd and see if it can detect your sound card.

Yes,some modules were changed and maybe i haved compiledthen ,too.. (make dep/bzImage/modules/modules_install/install  ...  these commands are necessary to recompile,right ?)

I reinstalled and now the sound card run well...

But I still don't know which module should I choose to recompile??

If you recompile the kernel 2.4.x, you must recompile alsa-drivers.

楼上的兄弟说的是,如果你图方便的话,把ac97模块就是i810_audio编译了,modprobe i810_audio看看~~或加到rc.local里面...........(但不能用alsa系统)
